People of Israel, you heard the prophet tell:
“A virgin mother will bear Emmanuel”;
she conceived him, “God with us,” our brother, whose birth,
restores hope and courage to children of this earth.
(All Earth is Hopeful ELW 266 v. 2)
A prophet hears and speaks the Word. Mary carries and births the Word. We are watered to bear the Word to our neighbor with hope and courage: “Emmanuel! God with us!” Despair dashed, fear cashed, by the courage of a child, by our brother birthed in Bethlehem.
Lord, as we wait we praise you for your Word; written, spoken, birthed and enfleshed in Christ. Come Lord Jesus! Amen.
