Disaster Preparedness and Response

Gulf Oil Spill Update

Lutheran Disaster Response (LDR) is continuing to monitor the devastating oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and asks for your fervent prayers for all those who have been affected.

At this time, only people who are specifically trained and equipped by BP are permitted to work directly in the clean-up process. In the future, opportunities may emerge for other types of volunteer roles, and each state in the area is receiving names of volunteers who are interested in helping. To register, click one of the following links:

     Louisiana: volunteerlouisiana.gov

     Mississippi: volunteermississippi.org

     Florida: volunteerfloridadisaster.org

     Alabama: servealabama.gov

Because BP has pledged to pay for all costs related to clean-up as well as reimburse those who have experienced a loss of income, LDR will not be funding oil spill recovery efforts at this time. Instead, please consider a donation to help those in the many states affected by recent flooding and tornadoes. Visit www.ldr.org to donate or learn more. Many thanks!

Relief Aid for Haiti

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12, only 15 kilometers southwest of the capital Port-au-Prince. Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world, and this earthquake is proving to be catastrophic for our brothers and sisters there.
